ABOUT
The course
This one-day course offers both new and experienced Forest School Leaders the chance to come together, share practice and refresh their skills in a supportive and inspiring woodland setting. It provides a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from one another and discover new activities and games to take back to your groups.
The day is designed to be flexible and learner-led, with the format shaped around the interests and suggestions of those attending. You will have time to share something that has worked well in your own Forest School sessions – this might be a resource, a game or an activity – and to pick up fresh ideas from fellow leaders.
Practical skills will form a key part of the day. Typical activities include:
- Using tools to create simple items such as a butter knife or mallet
- Practising knots to build a star-gazing chair, ladder or other structures
- Experimenting with natural dyes and cordage
Developing fire-lighting techniques and safe practice - Setting up a cooking fire or storm kettle for drinks and campfire cooking
Throughout the day, we will also explore games and activities that motivate, energise and engage learners at Forest School. Whether you are looking to refresh your toolkit of ideas, gain confidence in your practical skills or simply reconnect with the ethos and principles of Forest School, this course offers a welcoming space to do so.
